Dr. Sanjun CAI is a consultant in General Surgery (specialty in Gastrointestinal Surgery) at Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital. Dr. Cai graduated from Shanghai Medical University. He is a chief physician in Colorectal Surgery at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center and the chief expert of colorectal multidisciplinary team (MDT). He served as the former chairman of the Committee of Colorectal Cancer of Chinese Anticancer Association, and is a deputy chairman of the colorectal tumor branch of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), a deputy chairman of the MDT branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the chairman of Shanghai Anticancer Association, colorectal cancer branch, the chair of the colorectal cancer branch of the Shanghai CDC, a member of the Chinese Version Expert Committee of National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) clinical guidelines in oncology, and the writer of the NCCN clinical practice guidelines in colorectal cancer surgery (Chinese version).
In 2012, Dr. Cai won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of The Ministry of Education as the first accomplisher. In 2018, he was awarded the second prize of Science and Technology Award by the Shanghai Preventive Medical Association. He has participated in more than ten national and provincial scientific research projects, including those supported by the National Nature Fund, the National 863 Project Fund, and the Fudan 211 Project for colorectal cancer research.
Dr. Cai mainly focuses on basic experimental research and clinical treatment research of colorectal cancer, and has a deep understanding of various treatment methods, comprehensive treatment and individualized treatment in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. He has established the excellent colorectal cancer MDT team in China, and actively promoted the development of normative multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment of colorectal cancer in China.
Dr. Cai has engaged in clinical surgery for more than 25 years. Since 1983, he has performed more than 20,000 operation for tumors, including 13,000 for colorectal cancer, 4,000 for gastric cancer, 400-500 for hepatobiliary pancreatic cancer, and 1,500 for soft tissue sarcoma and melanoma.
